Program Bio:

“Adam Overacker is a consummate bassist, performing and teaching a wide variety of music from Broadway, country, rock, pop, bluegrass, classical, and jazz. Starting in 2018 Adam began touring North America with the Broadway music The Book Of Mormon. Adam isn’t great at writing bios, but he does love to play the bass.”

A silly bio:

“Adam Overacker likes playing the bass, it seems to make him happy. He showed up and wasn’t too bad so we let him stay - it’s just bass after all. He’s not great, but he smiles a lot and talks like he knows what he’s doing, so that’s good. If anybody in the audience teaches bass please let us know, we’ll comp your tickets in exchange for lessons for Adam. Or for any of the crew really, how hard could it be, it’s just bass.”

A more thorough background:

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT. I earned my bachelor’s degree in music in 2005 from the University of Utah. I make my full time living performing and recording music and have for many years. I primarily play upright bass and bass guitar, but also play piano, do arranging work, book/contract, and create and lead bands.

I studied with Evan Coombs, David Yavornitzky, Matthew Larson, Gary Karr, James Fugett, and Deborah Gamero.

I performed and toured with Charley Jenkins late 2013 - early 2017.

I have performed in over 100 musical productions including national broadway tours, regional premiers, Utah premiers, original productions, and too many regional productions to count. A list of highlights is at the bottom of this page. For two years I was the bassists for the National tour of Book of Mormon, the hit Broadway Musical.

In October of 2022 I bought a home in Nashville, TN and now split my time between Nashville and Park City, UT.

I own and manage several of my own groups including:

String Love - Classical and Rock String Quintet (Owner, Arranger, Bassist)

Take 3 - Jazz Trio (Owner, Arranger, Bassist)

Unbranded - Country Dance Band (Owner, Bassist)

Utah String Quartet - classical string quartet

The SugaTones - a Motown and Soul group.

I am a proficient reader and improviser, fluent in standard notation, chord changes, and Nashville notation.

I have experience as musical director. I have also created several successful groups which I contract, book, arrange music for, musical direct, and perform with, including String Love, Take 3, The Patsy Cline Show, Unbranded, and The Utah String Quartet.

I have extensive studio recording experience having worked at many studios including Counterpoint, Metcom, Barking Pig, Abstract Sound, B-Side, and many others.

I am experienced in booking, management, librarian work, and payroll including Quickbooks, Paychex, and Wagepoint.

I am an avid bass instructor, having taught private lessons, workshops, and masterclasses since 2001, leading students to scholarships, to perform in elite groups like the Utah all-state jazz band, and even start their own bands.
